Links of Interest for Assessment, Education Reform and related

The EASL Institute is part of a broader effort to democratize and strengthen the educational experience for teachers, students, parents, and school leaders. We are particularly concerned with building networks of support among those working with under-resourced communities, communities of color, and others similarly situated. The Network for College Success is a project of the School of Social Services Administration of the University of Chicago.  It currently works with 10 Chicago Public Schools high schools to build professional learning communities to support student success in high school as a basis for their success in their post-secondary work.

The Consortium on Chicago School Research has done trailblazing research on what matters for success in high school and postsecondary preparation.

The Coalition of Essential Schools has provided an important forum for progressive schools to come together to share the experiences of teaching and learning from a shared commitment to democracy and equity.  Over the years, we have been fortunate to connect with school leaders and teachers who have adopted EASE.

The Forum for Education and Edmocracy brings together educators and advocates for policy and practices supporting equitable educational institutions.

FairTest "advances quality education and equal opportunity by promoting fair, open, valid and educationally beneficial evaluations of students, teachers and schools."  FairTest has been a leader in challenging the role of high-stakes testing nationally.

 

School Organizations

Several school-based organizations share an interest with the EASL Institute in equity and achievement in teaching in learning.  Key among these are

The Internationals Network of Public Schools describe their practice: 

All International High Schools have a learner-centered, project based, interdisciplinary curriculum that incorporates performance-based assessment. Within our classrooms, heterogeneous groups of students work collaboratively on content-based tasks in a language rich environment.

Bronx International High School has been the base for bringing EASE to New York City.

The Urban Assembly's slogan is "Creating Schools that Empower Every Student to Succeed".  The Urban Assembly School of Music and Art will host the second session of the EASL Institute's Summer Institute July 26-28.

 

New Visions for Public Schools provides support for schools and school leaders with the philosophy

The Teaching and Learning team helps schools implement and support personalized, resource-rich and inquiry-based teaching practices set within a culture of high expectation

New Visions is supporting the Business of Sports School of New York City, which will open in the fall of 2009 using the EASL approach and EASE software.
